Dr Khurshid Ahmad Salman is the Chairman of Peoples\u2019 Environmental Council (a group of subject matter experts). A retired public health administrator, trainer, and teacher. He is an environmental protection activist.<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n

Vice-Chairperson<\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Ms Tanveer Jehan is the Vice-Chairperson of PEC and is a Retd. Indian Administrative Services Officer. Ms Tanveer Jehan has served in Jammu & Kashmir in various important positions at the top administration. She has the distinction of being the first female Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar.\u00a0 Ms Tanveer has received the state’s highest award Gold Medal for meritorious Services in the year 2012.<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n

Shugufta Qazi (KAS Rtd.) Treasurer<\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/td>\r\n

Shagufta Qazi is the Treasurer of PEC. Shagufta served the Department of Finance in various capacities mainly in the healthcare, and tourism sectors. She superannuated as the Director of Finance Audit and Inspections in the J&K Government. She also worked on many multilateral projects funded by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n

Athar Pervaiz is the Spokesperson of PEC. Athar an award-winning environmental journalist is passionate about environmental and wildlife conservation and has extensively written about environmental issues in the global south with a special focus on the Himalayan region in South Asia. His work regularly appears in several international venues including science journals.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n

Sakib Qadri is the founder Trustee and Convener of PEC. Sakib is an environmentalist by passion, purpose, and profession and works as an environment safeguard specialist (Consultant). His environmental activism is well-recognized and was nominated for Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puruskaar 2003 and Dubai International Award.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Mir Javed Hussain
Trustee<\/span><\/td>\r\n		Mir Javed Hussain the Former Director, Southeast Asia Department, Asian Development Bank, Manila, Philippines, the PEC Trustee. Javed is currently a Professor of Practice, Mantaqi Center for Science and Society, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, Kashmir. Educated at Yale and Cornell Universities, USA; Professor Mir is a sustainable development planning and implementation professional.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Sumir Ahsan
Trustee<\/span><\/td>\r\n		Sumir Ahsan, an accomplished IT professional and passionate entrepreneur, lends his expertise as a trustee at the People’s Environmental Council (PEC). His deep knowledge of technology and unwavering commitment to environmental causes are invaluable assets in advancing PEC’s advocacy for a sustainable future.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Prof. Shakil Romshoo<\/span><\/td>\r\nProf. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo is the Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology in Awantipora, Kashmir. He possesses a multi-disciplinary education and has research interests in climate change, hydrology, glaciology, and integrated environmental analysis.<\/span>

Abdul Rashid Wani
(IFS Rtd.)<\/span><\/td>\r\n		A R Wani is one of the founder members of PEC. A R Wani is a retired Indian Forest Officer who superannuated as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests J&K. Wani has immensely contributed as Managing Director of State Forest Corporation and Chief Wildlife Department of J&K. A R Wani has an irreplaceable image of an upright and honest forest officer in J&K.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Prof. A R Yousuf<\/span><\/td>\r\nProf. A. R. Yousuf is the founder member of PEC. He served as a post-graduate teacher and researcher at the University of Kashmir and held several administrative positions, including Director CORD, Head Department of Environmental Science, Dean Faculty of Biological Sciences and Dean Academic Affairs. Prof. Yousuf served as an Expert Member of National Green Tribunal, New Delhi besides serving as Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Dal Lake Conservation Project. Prof. Yousuf published three books and more than 170 research articles in Limnology and fisheries and guided 42 M. Phil and 25 Ph.D. students.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Salim Beg<\/span><\/td>\r\nM Saleem Beg served in J&K State Government in various capacities and superannuated as Director General Tourism. Beg served as a member and I\/C Chairperson National Monuments Authority of India. A heritage activist\/practitioner, engaged in advocacy and programs that have led to evolving strategies, influencing policies and legal framework for preservation of cultural heritage in Jammu and Kashmir. In April 2006, Beg took over the responsibilities of Convener INTACH J&K chapter on a full time basis. Saleem Beg is a founder trustee of Indian Heritage cities Network foundation.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dr Arshid Jahangir<\/span><\/td>\r\nDr. Arshid Jehangir is senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Kashmir. He has more than 15 years of teaching and research experience. His thrust area of research includes, Environmental Pollution, EIA terrestrial Ecology and Solid Waste Management. Dr. Jehangir has published more than 60 research papers in various national and international journals.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dr Tavoos Hassan Bhat<\/span><\/td>\r\nTavoos Hassan Bhat, an Environmental Sustainability Professional with a Ph.D. from Kyushu University, Japan, has over a decade of experience in developing and implementing policies for environmental, health, and safety management systems in different organizations in UAE. His research primarily centers on sustainable transportation’s benefits to public health, specifically in tackling air pollution issues. Dr Tavoos coordinates PEC activities for south Kashmir.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dr S M Gul<\/span><\/td>\r\nSheikh Mubarek Gul, Lecturer Environmental Sciences in Department of School Education J&K. Mubarek is an enthusiastic environmental educator, with more than 17 years of teaching experience at college and university level, a certified counsellor for PG Environmental Sciences IGNOU. Mubarek is an active member of PEC and coordinates PEC activities for north Kashmir.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dr Farooq Ahmad<\/span><\/td>\r\nDr Farooq Ahmad is the former Director, Animal Husbandry Department at the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. He is a known social worker and is associated with many initiatives. He is Member Executive Body of Voluntary Medicare Society, is a member of Cancer Society of Kashmir and heads the Help Saba Cancer Charitable Trust.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dr Adnan Abubakr<\/span><\/td>\r\nDr. Adnan Abubakr is a Professor of Limnology & Head Division of Aquatic Environmental Management (AEM), Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K. Dr Adnan specializes in designing artificial wetland systems for treatment of wastewaters and has teaching, research, and extension experience of more than 15 years. He has been instrumental in instituting M.F.Sc & Ph.D Degree programs in AEM in the Division of AEM. Dr Adnan has to his credit 60 research publication in peer reviewed journals and have completed 02 externally funded and 03 university funded research projects. He has guided more than 20 students for their Masters and Ph.D degrees.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dr Ahsan U Haq Qurashi<\/span><\/td>\r\nDr Ahsan Ul Haq Qurashi is an Associate Professor. of Chemistry and founding director of Advanced Materials Chemistry Center (AMCC) in Khalifa University Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He is Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). He is nanotechnologist by training and published over 120 research articles in peer review journals, over 70 international conferences, 7 book chapters and edited book and editorial board member of various prestigious journals in the field. His research interest is development of new materials for clean energy and environmental applications. He is PEC member from 2021<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Manzoor A Wangnoo<\/span><\/td>\r\nManzoor Ahmad Wangnoo is a professional in the business world with a deep passion for environmental conservation (especially waterbodies) He is Chairman\/President Nageen Lake Conservation Organisation. Manzoor Wangnoo is a Managing Partner of Kashmir Mahal Group, (Export, Retail & Hospitality). Manzoor is associated with Kashmir Welfare Trust (Relief and Rehabilitation), Nigeen Tourist Traders Association (Tourism), Bilaliya Educational Institute (Education), Moral Education, Environment & Relief Council (PSAJK). Manzoor Wangnoo has been honoured with several awards for his social and environmental work.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dr Saleem Ur Rehman<\/span><\/td>\r\nDr. Saleem Ur Rehman is a Public Health Specialist trained from the University of North Carolina, USA. He served the Department of Health Services J&K in various capacities and recently superannuated as Director General of Family Welfare, MCH, and Immunization. He also worked as Director General Youth Services and Sports and Health Officer SMC where he contributed to the SWM of Srinagar city. Saleem is one of the founder members of PEC.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Shahala Ali Sheikh<\/span><\/td>\r\nShahala Ali Sheikh is an entrepreneur, a sports and equestrian enthusiast, and a community activist, committed to women\u2019s empowerment, social justice, ethical governance, improving urban infrastructure, and environmental sustainability. Shahala is a passionate environment enthusiast and can be often seen planting trees in support of afforestation, and like a true community organizer, educating people about respect for nature, and preserving and nurturing the environment. Shahala is among the founder members of PEC.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dushyant Mehta<\/span><\/td>\r\nDushyant Mehta belongs to Srinagar\u2019s Mahatta family. Continuing the family tradition, Mr. Mehta started Mahatta Art, an online platform for printing, framing, and wall d\u00e9cor. He also founded the largest photo stock agency in India, Indiapicture. Aside from these, Mr. Mehta has directed and produced various documentaries and TV series. He is currently directing an animated feature film, ‘Bhakt Prahalad: The Battle of Faith.\u2019<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Manzoor A Tarray<\/span><\/td>\r\nManzoor Ahmad Taray retired as Chief Sanitation Officer from Srinagar Municipal Corporation. He has an in-service experience of 12 Years\u2019 handling Solid Waste Management of Srinagar city. Manzoor Taray was honoured with the President of India Medal for distinguished services rendered during Census 2011.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dr Raiz Lone<\/span><\/td>\r\nRaiz Ahmed Lone is a PhD in Floriculture and Landscaping from SKUAST-K. Dr Raiz has the distinction of being one of the founding members of the world\u2019s renowned Tulip Garden, Srinagar. He has contributed to the design and management of Tulip Garden during its establishing years. Dr Raiz is an Assistant Professor at the SKUAST-K and remains associated actively with extension, research and teaching activities. Dr Raiz has authored more than 33 research articles, 30 popular articles, 1 book and a few book chapters.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Pervaiz Maqbool Fazili<\/span><\/td>\r\nEr. Parvez Maqbool Fazili is a Civil Engineer with an illustrious 47 years of experience. Er Fazili retired as Superintending Engineer J&K Public Works and Roads and Buildings Department in the year 2009. Er Fazili executed various important projects across Jammu and Kashmir.\u00a0 Post-retirement Er Fazili joined consulting services as Deputy Team Leader and supervised many important projects including Jahangir Chowk Rambagh Flyover under Asian Development Bank project.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Mian Ajaz Rasool<\/span><\/td>\r\nEr. Ajaz Rasool is a Civil Engineer with a vast experience of 34 years of working in J&K Power Development, Public Health Engineering Department, J&K Urban Environmental Engineering Department, J&K Lakes & Waterways Development Authority and superannuated as Superintending Engineer.\u00a0 Er Ajaz was appointed as a member, of the National Committee of Experts for Wetlands, for the Prime Minister\u2019s Reconstruction Plan for J&K in 2008. Recently, Ajaz was appointed Technical Expert, Technical Committee of Wetland Authority, UT of J&K in 2021.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Anita Mehta<\/span><\/td>\r\nAnita Mehta runs Mahatta Home Stay and Mahatta Caf\u00e9 in Srinagar. After her husband, Mr. Jagdish Mehta passed away, Mrs. Mehta also preserved the family legacy and continued to run the second oldest photo studio in the country, Mahatta Studio, with the help of her two sons. Established in 1912, the studio is located on The Bund. Anita Mehta has been instrumental in promoting Kashmiri artists in her art gallery, which showcases the rich culture and heritage of Kashmir.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Wajahat Nazki<\/span><\/td>\r\nWajahat Nazki is a Civil Engineer, specialized in Urban Planning & Mass Communication. Wajahat is currently heading solid waste management projects at Urban Local Bodies Kashmir. Wajahat has worked as Team Leader for AMRUT and SMC. He has distinction of working as Project Monitoring & Management Specialist for ADB besides working as DGM Technical at GKW for KFW at NCR planning board.\u00a0 Wajahat is Honorary Joint Secretary Indian Water Works Association JK chapter<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Mohammad Latif<\/span><\/td>\r\nMohammad Latif is an Agriculture Extension Officer working for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Latif is associated with PEC for last couple of years and has been active member.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Mirza Mohammad Idrees ul Haq Beigh<\/span><\/td>\r\nMirza Mohammad Idrees Ul Haq Beigh is an Electrical Engineer and certified professional from IIT Delhi, Stanford University and World Intellectual property organization. Beigh has been involved in various techno-environmental forums and conferences since 2003 and has made significant contributions. His innovative prowess is reflected in multiple IPR\u2019s (Patents, Copy rights, designs etc.) held in various countries across the globe.\u00a0 Beigh has shared his insights on engineering, innovation, environmental sustainability, and entrepreneurship through numerous lectures across India.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Syed Hilal Ahmad<\/span><\/td>\r\nSyed Hilal Ahmad Bukhari is an Electrical Engineer and a third-generation businessman. He is a philanthropist social worker who is always available for the needy and the human cause.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Adv. Muzaffar Kirmani<\/span><\/td>\r\nMuzaffar Kirmani is an Advocate practising in J&K High Court with an experience of around 20 years. He has remained Government advocate in J&K High Court and also in Central Administrative Tribunal. Muzaffar has been standing council for various Government Departments and Corporations including SMC, SIDCO, PDD, etc. He is currently working with various business houses which include Airtel, Vodafone, Indus Tower Ltd, BASF, VIOSTATD etc.\u00a0 and besides other regular litigations.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Gulam Mustafa Mir<\/span><\/td>\r\nGulam Mustafa Mir is working as a teacher in School Education Department (SED), J&K. Mustafa has a rich educational background with M.SC (Mathematics); B.Ed, MTM, MPA, MSc (EVS). Mustafa joined PEC to augment his love and interest towards Environment, environmental studies, and environmental issues\/concerns.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Javid Amin<\/span><\/td>\r\nJavid Amin is a dynamic professional with a diverse skill set and a passion for technology, travel, and entrepreneurship. With a background in IT engineering, he excels as an IT consultant and is equally enthusiastic about staying ahead in the ever-evolving tech world. Javid’s creative flair shines through his work as a freelance writer, where he crafts engaging content across a wide spectrum of topics. He retired as Executive Director J&K State Power Development Corporation having remained Technical Head for all the hydropower Projects of the erstwhile J&K State more importantly 1856 Mw Sawalkote HEP & 900 Mw Baglihar HEP. Currently, Zahoor is a Senior Project Management and consulting Professional working with a leading National Level Consulting Firm for PMC and Consultancy Services for Urban Infrastructure Projects, Tunnels, Hydropower, Multipurpose Projects, etc.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Dr Mir Mansur\u00a0<\/span><\/td>\r\nDr Mir M Mansoor, Former Chief Wildlife Biologist, J&K State Wildlife Protection Department. Qualifications: B.Sc (Natural Sciences\u00a0 K.U), B.V.Sc & A.H. ( B.A.U Bihar), P.G. Advanced Wildlife Management (WII Dehradun UP) & P.G. Diploma in Conservation Breeding and Management of Endangered Species (from JWPT & University of Kent UK). Has worked as Zoo Assessor with the Zoo Authority of India after retirement from J&K Govt.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Syed Danish Kashani<\/span><\/td>\r\nSyed Danish Kashani is a young member of the Peoples\u2019 Environmental Council with a profound commitment to environmental preservation. Danish is a Glaciologist pursuing PhD in Geoinformatics at the University of Kashmir. Danish utilizes Remote Sensing, Machine Learning, and Glacial Modeling to assess the repercussions of climate change and human activities on Glaciers, Glacier Lake Outburst Floods, and associated biodiversity in the Himalayas.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Shakeel Ahmad Shah<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/td>\r\nHolds a degree in Chemical Engineering and is Master’s in Project Management. Shakeel has worked extensively in the Middle East, where he has gained extensive expertise in water and wastewater management. His professional journey has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges and innovative solutions pertinent to the water sector.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Faisal Jan<\/span><\/td>\r\nFaisal Zahoor Jan has MSc in Geoinformatics from the University of Kashmir and is pursuing PhD at present. Faisal is a Gold Medalist in MSc Geoinformatics from the University of Kashmir. Faisal has made significant contribution to the activities of PEC<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
Ainu Saba<\/span><\/td>\r\nAin us Saba Qazi is a PhD research Scholar in the Department of Geoinformatics at the University of Kashmir. She holds a master\u2019s degree in Geoinformatics from the same institution. She achieved the Best Presentation Award in the 13th session of the Jammu and Kashmir Science Congress for her presentation. Her areas of specialization include Remote Sensing and GIS, with expertise in Hydrology and Climate Change.<\/span><\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n
